My name is Birgit, I'm an expat artist currently assigned to Sri Lanka. We live in Wattala . After being here for nine months, we've settled down again and established a routine, as far it is possible over here.
Sri Lanka is an island where people seem to live for the holidays. For example, since january my son has not experienced a full week of school. There's always an excuse for a holiday popping up around here! I like it too, it means we get to see more of the sights and local traditions. Life is just more colorful on a holiday. The drawback is that it's difficult to get some actual work done. I get distracted easily. Especially if things are pretty and colorful. That would be this place.
So, I wander around being inspired all the time, but actually getting a chance to sit and paint is an altogether different ball game. There are about 20 paintings living in my head at this moment. That's why I've started this blog. Maybe reaching a larger public will make me more productive. Creating the chance to receive comments on how slow I'm going would be a major motivator to actually sit down and get the painting out there into real life.
My plans for this blog is the following: the posting of ideas and the process of conceptualization. I want to upload photographs of things that inspire me. I also will be uploading the works in progress, and at least explain to myself why they progress that way. Hopefully some kind souls out there will take it upon themselves to criticize me and my work to distraction in order for it to get even better.
